1907 Richard Garrett & Sons Steam Engine
PS Australian Star will be powered by a fully restored 1907 steam engine, see photo. The engine has had several different working purposes in Australia however powering PS Australian Star is set to be her last job!
Richard Garrett & Sons was a renowned manufacturer of agricultural machinery, steam engines, and trolleybuses, with its factory located at Leiston Works in Leiston, Suffolk, England. Founded by Richard Garrett in 1778, the company initially made its mark in the agricultural sector before expanding into steam engine production.
By the late 1840s, after establishing a successful business in farming equipment, Garrett & Sons began producing portable steam engines. Over the years, the company grew into a major enterprise, employing around 2,500 people at its peak.
Today, the PS Australian Star is powered by a fully restored Richard Garrett & Sons steam engine from 1907. After countless hours of meticulous work, the engine is now ready to embark on a new chapter, propelling the PS Australian Star along the majestic Murray River.
